I’m inside a bus. I took out word cards from my bag.

—I don’t remember the past year or so.

This is a big handicap for me who’s a 1st year high school student and going to cram school…

Well, I can’t do anything about it even if I don’t have them.

I nodded and then I memorized English words as per daily routine when I’m going to school.

And when I memorized it I changed my glance to outside.

I saw a pink haired girl who looked like she was a 1st year junior high school student walking on foot when the bus was waiting at the traffic light.

“Ah!”

I opened my eyes wide and she made an “Ah” expression, too.

And then, the bus departed at the green light.

“What’s wrong, Maki-chan? Raising your voice suddenly…”

My classmate was surprised and called out to me.

“That girl just now… I feel like I’ve seen her somewhere…”

“I feel like I’ve seen her, too. If I remember correctly, isn’t she the girl you’ve become friends with when you were hospitalized?”

“Hospitalized?”

“Aah, memory loss…?”

“It was leukemia.”

I overcame an unfathomable disease.

And then, I was attacked by loss of memory.

I left my house for a while, became missing and then a magnificently beautiful shrine maiden delivered me home…

That’s like an incident in a fantasy world…

However… I shook my head.

“Well, it doesn’t matter.”

“Doesn’t matter?”

“Having no memory of her is the same as not having met her in the first place. I wonder if it’s okay that I’ve forgotten her. Right now for me the most important thing is the next term’s final exam.”

While waiting for the traffic lights on the way to school, me and the girl on the bus looked at each other.

There was good traffic, so I managed to follow the shadow of the vehicle—But, I reached a long bridge.

A straight road spread before me.

There are no traffic lights and there is no traffic.

The bus was getting further and further away.

—If I’m not able to meet her here then there won’t be a second time.

I don’t understand why but I held this belief.

“Wait! Please wait! Waaaaait!”

I run, I just run.

But, the bus gradually increased speed and I couldn’t see it anymore.

“Haaa, haa, haaa—”

Halfway on the bridge, I’m out of breath and tears are falling.

Probably… I think.

From the lost memories.

That girl probably… she was precious to me.

I fell on the ground and began to cry.

“Maki…ane…”

I unconsciously spoke the words. That’s probably her name…

I’ll never meet the girl with that name again.

And from the opposite side of the bridge, that girl came running out of breath and disheveled long hair.

“Haa, haa!”

Maki-ane while having a do-or-die expression was standing before me.

“…”

Dozens of seconds passed like we were interviewing each other.

This is bad, I don’t know what to talk about.

Then Maki-ane started talking seeing that I didn’t know what to talk about.

And then Maki-ane resolved herself and talked.

“Ehm… Right now, I’ll do a strange thing.”

“…”

And then she hugged me as tightly as possible.

So that she won’t be separated from me ever again.

“Just a bit, you…?”

I don’t get her but something warm is gushing out from my heart’s depths.

No, it’s overflowing.

And then, I began crying brimming with emotions.

“I’m glad… I’m really glad.”

“That’s right. From now on we’ll always…”

I looked at her and she continued hugging me while crying.

We were crying and laughing, then we started walking while holding each other’s hands.

And then, on the riverbed that we could see from the bridge we were walking on the pale Michaelmas daisy flowers were fluttering in the wind.

Michaelmas daisy: The alias is Forget-Me-Not—- It means Don’t forget me in the Language of flowers.
